Suggested itinerary for one week safari, Southern Circuit Tanzania

Day 1
Arrive at Dar es Salaam international airport. If you arrive in the morning you take the smaller national flight straight to Selous, or if you arrive late you stay overnight in Dar and leave early next morning for Selous Game Reserve and Selous Safari Camp.

www.selous.com

Day 2 -4
Situated in the largest protected wilderness reserve on the continent, the Selous Safari Camp compromises luxury safari tents on the banks of the Rufiji River. Here you can take guided walks, game viewing by boat or by car. If you arrived yesterday you probably start the day by boat, following the course of the river watching the pods of hippo and crocodile lining the bank.

Day 5
After breakfast you fly to Ruaha National Park. Here you stay at Jongomero Camp which is set under the shady acacia trees on the banks of the Jongomero River. It is in the remote south western area of the park which ensures privacy and you will feel very close to the nature at all times. Here you will see a lot of birds and you have the chance to see the Kudu as well as a lot of other wild animals.

Day 6
Today you spend the whole day in Ruaha and you can choose between walks and game drives, morning and afternoon. You stay at the luxury tented Jongomero Lodge. FB

Day 7
After a leisurely breakfast you fly back to Dar and then continue to Ras Kutani by the Indian ocean, just south of Dar. Here you stay at Ras Kutani Lodge. It is a small coastal lodge of castaway luxury, set alone on a pristine beach of white sands, cooled by the ocean breeze.

You have more options and can vary this itinerary a lot. You can combine one or, as above, two parks with a stay on the beach. From Dar you can fly to Zanzibar or Mafia Island and you also have good opportunities for conferences in one of the large hotels in town. It is easy to fly to Kilimanjaro or you can combine Ras Kutani with game viewing in the northern or western circuit (in western circuit we recommend a visit to the chimpanzees in Mahale).
