Nearly every visitor in Tanzania wishes primarily to see animals in the wild, experience the culture and gaze over the beautiful landscape. Often a safari is combined with some days on the beach or with climbing a mountain. However, Tanzania has lots to offer the visitor who wish to combine a safari with other activities.

Scuba diving and snorkelling
The coral reefs off Tanzania’s coast and the islands offer some of the world’s finest scuba diving and snorkelling. Diving is possible all year round, and you have a lot of nice lodges that offers good diving and snorkelling facilities.

Fishing

The water round Zanzibar and Pemba islands is reckoned to offer some of the best deep sea fishing in the world. The tourists that wish to experience this is however spars and you cannot count on any luxury boats for the time being. The best place for deep sea fishing today is off the north coast of Zanzibar. Big game fish include barracuda, kingfish, sailfish, wahoo, dorado and blue marlin.

Bird watching
Tanzania is a birder’s paradise with its more than 1100 species of birds, and with the right guide, going to the right places, the bird watcher has great opportunities to see a great deal of them during a safari. The best time for birds are during the warm season when the migratory birds rest here on their way north.

Horseback riding
A different an wonderful way to experience the African landscape and animals. With a Horse-back Safari Company based at Ndarakwai, you can go for half or full day horse rides from camp.

Multiple day rides are also possible by prior arrangement. Manyara Ranch also offers horse riding tours.

Golfing
Although Tanzania is not a traditional golfing destination, there are numerous golf courses throughout the country. The local clubs are always very welcoming to any visitor. To give you some examples - Arusha town has a beautiful 9 hole course and just outside town is a new luxury hotel with a 18 hole golf course.

You also find a 18 hole golf course near the beach in Dar-es-Salaam.

Mountain climbing and hiking

For most climbers who visit Tanzania, the mount Kilimanjaro is the top prize. But Mount Meru is also popular and day hikes to the crater of Ol Doinyo Lengai, the only active volcano offers a challenge and well worthwhile experience.

Walking
A walk through the bush is a wonderful way to experience Tanzania. Smells and sounds become distinct and varied, and smaller creatures gain significance. Walks may be for almost any length of time, a few hours or a full day with picnic lunch. All walks are accompanied by experienced guides and safety is not an issue.

Balloon flights
Flight by hot air balloon is offered in Serengeti and the day begins as dawn breaks over the endless plain. Far below, wildebeest scatter while the giraffe stand untroubled by the airborne visitor… After landing a champagne breakfast awaits in the wild.
