Although slightly off
the beaten track of the more well known safari circuits,
a visit to the Selous Game Reserve
offers unforgettable game viewing in almost completely
isolated surroundings. The game reserve covers around 50
000 sq km and supports enormous numbers of wild animals.
It
has wonderful riverside wilderness and lies less than an
hour by light aircraft from Dar-es-Salaam.
One can get an excellent variety of experience, with
vehicle, boat and foot safaris. Selous has a good choice
of lodges, but all quite expensive. It is best suited to
people who are looking for a more gentle and relaxed
bush experience.
